NAD+ IV Therapy: What We Know and What Is Still Unproven

5 Minute Read

NAD+ is essential to cellular energy metabolism and many enzyme reactions. That biological importance does not automatically prove that an NAD+ infusion improves energy, longevity, cognition, or recovery.

What NAD+ Does

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is present in every cell and participates in redox reactions, DNA repair, and signaling. Levels and NAD-related metabolism change with age and illness, which has generated interest in supplementation.

An IV delivers material directly into the bloodstream, but questions remain about how infused NAD+ is broken down, taken up, and used by different tissues.

What the Evidence Shows

Human evidence for intravenous NAD+ remains limited. Small studies and observational reports cannot establish broad claims about anti-aging, athletic performance, addiction treatment, brain health, or chronic fatigue. Oral precursors have been studied more often, but changes in biomarkers do not necessarily translate into meaningful clinical outcomes.

NAD+ IV therapy is not FDA approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent aging. Marketing claims should be separated from established evidence.

Possible Risks

Infusions may cause nausea, abdominal discomfort, flushing, headache, chest pressure, or a racing heartbeat, particularly when administered quickly. Any IV also carries risks such as bruising, infiltration, infection, vein irritation, and fluid-related problems.

Product sourcing, sterility, concentration, medication interactions, pregnancy, kidney or heart disease, and the reason for symptoms should be reviewed first.

A Transparent Approach

Modern Edge Family Practice discusses the uncertain evidence openly. NAD+ IV may be an elective wellness service for an appropriately screened patient, but it should not replace evaluation or proven treatment for fatigue, cognitive change, substance-use disorder, or another medical condition.

The Modern Edge Difference
