Menopause & Perimenopause Care
What Is Perimenopause and Menopause Care?
Menopause and perimenopause care at Modern Edge Family Practice in Albuquerque, NM helps women manage the hormone changes that usually start in their 40s. Perimenopause is the transition before periods stop for good, and it can last several years. Menopause is confirmed after 12 months without a period. Both can bring hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, mood changes, brain fog, weight gain around the middle, vaginal dryness, and lower libido.
Our providers look at the whole picture, including thyroid, metabolism, iron, and vitamin levels, because many of these symptoms overlap with other conditions. Care is led by Sonya Walsh, FNP-C, and Ryan Asher, NP-C, board-certified family nurse practitioners.
How We Approach Treatment
Step 1: Evaluation
We start with a symptom review, your cycle history, medical and family history, and a conversation about your goals.
Step 2: Lab testing
Our Women's Longevity and Hormone Panel checks estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, SHBG, DHEA-S, thyroid, ferritin, vitamin D, B12, and metabolic markers. FSH and LH can be added.
Step 3: A plan built for you
Depending on your symptoms, history, and labs, options may include:
- Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, including Biote pellets
- Non-hormonal options for hot flashes and sleep when hormones are not a fit
- Medical weight loss support for menopause-related weight gain
- Nutrition, sleep, and strength-training guidance
Hormone therapy is not right for everyone. Your provider will talk through the benefits and risks for your health history, including any history of breast cancer, blood clots, stroke, or heart disease.
Step 4: Follow-up
We recheck symptoms and labs and adjust your plan over time.

Where can I get menopause treatment in Albuquerque?
Modern Edge Family Practice offers perimenopause and menopause care at 2440 Louisiana Blvd NE, Suite 200, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Call (505) 370-9195 to schedule a consultation.
How do I know if I am in perimenopause?
Common signs include irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, trouble sleeping, and mood changes, often starting in your 40s. Hormone levels swing during perimenopause, so diagnosis is based mainly on symptoms and age, with labs used to rule out thyroid and other causes.
Is hormone therapy safe?
For many healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, hormone therapy is considered a reasonable option for moderate to severe symptoms. It is not right for everyone. Your provider will review your personal risks before recommending any treatment.
Do you only offer hormones?
No. Some women do best with non-hormonal medications, lifestyle changes, or weight management support. Your plan is based on your symptoms, labs, and preferences.
